So many of us love shrines, and it would be nice to see each others work and gab about shrines. I am working on one now that is going to be an anima sola shrine with lots of glitter.

I think it would also be cool to post pics of old shrines (or shadowboxes) cause i have a few of those lying around.

I've got a couple of pieces in progress that I'm struggling with. It would be great to post pics and get feedback if I'm going in a good direction or not.

If you guys don't mind a newbie to shrines, I would like to try my hand at this...I could use some help as I want to honor my mother-in-law, who died two years ago in July.  She was my best advocate for all of my arts and crafts...

Not sure where to start, but I will look at past posts and follow along...follow the "masters"

this could be fun. ive ben working on some crosses, but id like to get back into the shrines. a little bigger space to work with. ive never done a craftalong before..hehe...

alwaysinmyroom- you can start by collecting a bunch of things that remind you of your MIL. like photos, keepsakes, if she knitted, you can use a pair of needles in it. i usually just pile up a bunch of stuff that reminds me of that person and go from there..depending on what type of look your going for, acmoores has some nice shadowboxes you can paint that have a glass front. or you can make one yourself out of whatever!with stuff like this you can use your imagination..

This sounds like a fun idea... a friend dropped by with a perfect piece to alter too (altered altar anyone? Wink)

I've been itching to do a santaria/voo-doo shrine actually. This might be the push to get on it...

This is good timing, I just started my first shrine today. i'm doing a frida shrine to hang in my dining room. I'd like to do a more personal shrine next, with someone closer to my heart, but i thought she would make a fun and easy subject for my first. I'm having so much fun creating, i'd love to devote the rest of my day to making it, but my babe is 2 months now and keeping me very busy, it's not easy painting details with one hand while holding him with the other. So i imagine it will be a long work in progress.

Wow, all that stuff at the Silvercrow site has made me want to make a new shrine for myself! I have an older, not  terribly interesting shrine I made a long time ago that was never really dedicated to anything in particular. My only problem is that I still don't have anything in particular that I would want to dedicate a shrine to! Any suggestions?

You can lead a fool to knowledge, but you can't make him think.

It shone, pale as bone
As I stood there alone
And I thought to myself how the moon
That night, cast its light
On my heart's true delight
And the reef where her body was strewn

If I'm not doing a Day of the Dead shrine, then they are generally based on an idea or a word...
