I've been lurking this thread on and off for a very long time.  The shrines are just completely amazing.  I am in awe of the skills that some of you have.  Thanks to everyone for all of the inspiration.

And I love that this "shrine-a-long" just goes on forever.  Very cool.  I do have two older shrines I'll post some time when I get photos (one is from a workshop I was lucky enough to do with the crafty chica herself, Cathy Cano-Murillo!)

In the meantime, this is one that I recently did for the Day of the Dead Swap.  It can be used as either an ofrenda (shrine) for the day of the dead celebration or as an every day shrine.  It is customizable so that the recipient can choose the subject.  Everything "pins" on with thumbtacks or slides in place.  I made lots of interchangeable items and included blanks.  There are also small items to place around the shring plus assorted milagros.

Shrine:
Set up to Patsy Cline (sorry for the fuzz-I'm shaky sometimes):

Assorted pieces:

Small items and slide-in loteria cards:

It's not that I don't want to swap, it's that I often don't have time.  But feel free to ask (especially if it's one that's not too time consuming).

I love the look and the cleverness of this, you've obviously put so much work into it.

I had no idea this thread existed-thank you KarenLouiseM for directing me here!! I think most of my art pieces tend to the shrine like Smiley And my house is filled with makeshift altars! I adore the shrine you made for DOD swap. Here's mine-my partner received, but hasn't has time to post. I call it a portable Day of Dead Shrine

This is the outside of the old lunch box

inside with room for interchangeable offerings.
The center Our Lady is painted on an aluminum Jones soda can, everything else is found stuff.
Not quite as fancy as some shrines-but hey-it's portable!! I also made some magnets for it since it's metal.

Would anyone be interested in starting a new Shrine-a-long for 2008? This thread is huge, so it would make sense to start over with a new year. We could do one every month/two months, divide the year into quarters, or one big one for the whole year. Options abound!

Shrine-a-long by the year/quarter/or one huge one - yes please.

I LOVE seeing everyone's shrines.  And I like that they don't get lost with other misc. posts this way.
