amaryillis, are those things from your family, or by previous owners? Do you know who that bad boy is?

He's somehow connected to my step-mom's distant family...her great grandfather or great-great grandfather or a distant uncle or something like that was a lawyer. It was in a packet of papers that belonged to him. The date seems much too early, though. The rest of the stuff was 30 to 40 years later.

I'd be tempted to scan everything so I wouldn't lose any of them even if I used the original in a piece of art.

I've heard that leaving all the smelly musty stuff in a box with several charcoal briquettes (not the instant-light ones - can you even get the regular kind any more?), in an open tray so the black schmutz doesn't get all over the paper, really helps reduce the smell.

I'm jealous of your find.  I bought a cigar box full of WWII-era ephemera a couple of weeks ago - several letters home from a soldier that had been processed by the war censors, books of ration stamps, etc.  Pretty cool.  I'm fascinated with people's everyday paper.

I'll probably scan a lot of them...but some of them just are just begging me to use the originals...there are a couple of membership cards for various orgainzations and I just love the bulkyness of them.

I think the weird boxy thing I posted the pic of back on page 2 is what they need to worked into.

And I'm pretty sure I have some death/funeral notices in my stash, too!...

I'm trying really hard not to be jealous of the stash, but it's not working.  Undecided
