Been lurking on here for a while, and finally decided to contribute instead of schmoozing everyone elses ideas.

Both of these I just kind of whipped out.  I wanted ponchos, and gosh-darn-it I wanted them now!

This one is single crochet for the whole thing, done in a t-shirt yarn.

This one is double crochet in very fuzzy yarn:

wow! good job! so what kind of stitch pattern did you use to get single crochet to look like that first poncho?

where are we going, and why am i in this handbasket?

Pink Poncho: Used size "J" hook.

Row 1: Make a chain (ch) the width you want the bottom of your poncho (muliple of 9, + 4 extra sc). Use a sc to connect the ch and creat a circle.
Row 2: *ch 9, skip next 8 chs and single crochet (sc) in the 9th ch* (repeat from * to the last 4 ch).
Row 3: skip the next 4 chs of Row 1, and 5 chs of Row 2.  sc in 5th ch. *skip next 9 chs and sc in 9th ch*.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 all the way up around the circle, and it will "spirle" up to the length you want.  I decressed to 7ch/ch skipped about half way up, and then 5 chs/5 chs skipped 2/3 the way up to narrow it as it got to the top. When the hole for the head was the circumfrance I wanted, I finished off, and chained a drawstring that I wove into the top row.

I can also wear it as a tube dress over my bikini, or a beach skirt!

i agree, they are great. and you just made it up!?
i want to try that with a flower stitch i have (to turn it into a poncho) but i'm not brave enough cause i might make a mistake!
would love if you posted the pattern for the blue one.

I love your ponchos so much. I really need to learn how to crochet! Did you teach yourself?

I also wanted to show you a pic of Jessica Simpson wearing something kinda similar to your blue-ish one, now I know that I can make something similar since you made such a beautiful one!!!

Okay, I tried to figure out a way to explain how to do the blue poncho, and decided to just take pictures of another one.  So, I will probably have pictures up tomorrow.  Thanks for all your sweet comments!
