beaded ... object that isn't a doll

so i had never tried bead embroidery, but i was inspired by the beaded mermaid craftalong and other beaded dolls i've seen here on craftster. but i'm not really a doll kind of person, so i thought i'd try something flat instead. what do you guys think? (and how on earth do you get decent photos of your beaded projects?)



it's not quite finished, but i felt like posting it anyways. it was (also) inspired by a friend of mine who is a fisherman and whom i have a desperate crush on. err... well, maybe not a crush. desperate feeling of a less innocent nature, shall we say?  

anyways, now that it's almost done, i have no idea what to do with it. i guess it was partly one of those process as therapy as opposed to finished product focused kind of projects. but i'd still like to find something useful to do with it, if i can. any ideas?

Im one of those people who look at things for like.. 15minutes and it still doesnt click. Is the dark blue like..  a swordfish and the light blue like...waves? Im just not seeing it..but it looks pretty!

I also agree on the shadowbox.

Looks like the dark blue one is a stringray, and the light blue part... erm.. I want to say a betta, but it may just be waves. Am I even close? It looks great either way!!

it's a blue marlin, actually. and that's just waves/water surrounding it. when i get it totally finished, i'll try to take a better picture in hopes of it being more clear. hmm... a shadowbox, i'd never thought of something like that. i was considering putting it on the outside of a coin purse or something where i'd be able to hold it in my hands. i like the way the beads feel, that's part of what makes this type of project therapeutic, i think. (haha, maybe i should go visit the occupational therapists here at work.) what do you guys think of a more "high traffic" kind of use - do projects like this hold up well, or am i just asking for trouble?

Wow, I love it! I need to find the patience to try this out for myself. I hear you on the feel of the beads, but I think it's worthy of hanging on the wall! Maybe an inverse shadowbox sort of thing? Attaching it to a frame that will make it stand out from the wall an inch or two, somewhere you walk by every day so you can touch it when you do!

How very pretty!  I love the design.  I'm trying bead embroidery for the first time, and I agree with everyone about the "feel" of the beads; I catch myself "petting" my project (not as crazy as that sounds, honest).

It's very lovely; I'm impressed!
