This in no way compairs to the amazing work of you quilters on here, but I wanted to share this blanket that I finally finished. I started it years ago-about 6 years ago, if not more. I was using my mom's sewing machine. It died. I moved across the country, and didn't have access to a sewing machine. I tried doing some by hand, but that didn't go so well, so there the blanket sat until today. I got a sewing machine from a friend who was selling it our yard sale, and I was able to finally finish this thing.   Cheesy

The blanket- It's denim squares with a fleece back.

Some of the crazy denim squares

And my sewing machine! I'm so excited to finally get into sewing again! It's an old singer in a cute little sewing table.

I like it. i am working on a jeans quilt myself and got a great deal at a thrift sale bag sale day. i shoved like 8 pairs of jeans in there and it was only 5 bucks. I really like yours. Is it still fraying and making a big mess or is it ok after you wash it once or twice?

It was a crazy big mess when I first cut up the jeans and started sewing them together. I wanted the fuzzy fringe on the outside so when the denim portion was sewn I trimmed the really long threads and washed it once. I then sewed on the fleece. I think I need to trim a few long threads on the fringe again, but it doesn't seem to be fraying any more. The intital cutting and sewing left blue threads EVERYWHERE. Once sewn and washed once though the fraying slowed considerably.

Great quilt!

A friend I was camping with this weekend showed me one her 12 year old daughter had made with denim and I love how they look.

On a side note, that Singer sewing machine looks exactly like the one my Mom has and still uses.

I am so happy for you!
1) excellent job on quilt (I really want to try this!)
2) that you have a sewing machine all your own!  I love the colcr.

OMG, I love my sweet machine.  I lovingly made a dust cover for it and send it little happy vibes for a long life.

Was there any trouble with bulk?  I've put off making a jeans quilt because of that.
Good job!  I bet it is a wonderful feeling to wake up under it!

I had some trouble when using my mom's machine, but mine is one of those really old metal ones that I think will sew through just about anything. My mom's did just fine on two pieces of denim, but in a few places it had some issues with corners where I had two layers of denim and two layers of fleece. I also didn't plan this particularly well, and had some crazy folds on the edges. If I do this again I'll sew the fleece backing on differently.

I want to try this next. The picture is pretty terrible. Someone saved the magazine article for me and it has way better pictures. I despise martha stewart, but this rug is too cute.

I. LOVE. This. I have all kinds of denim things that don't fit anymore. I may have to start a collection of squares for something like this. Nice job!
