wood clay (airdry clay made from sawdust(aren't i lucky))
oil clay (air dry wet, smooth clay.
and this squishy fluffy airdry clay that came in, soft and super lightweight
i think something else too.

I really love bjds so much! i want to join in and make one too! The only problem is... I'm not that good at sculpting. But I'm sure i can at least make something decent. Also, How much clay do I need to buy? I read that someone said they bought 4 blocks of clay, but how big of blocks do i need?
and do I need to make the sawdust and glue thing? or can i just use another layer of clay for that instead?

Thanks ahead of time for your help!

This is such and amazing thread! I have fallen for BJD myself. I have two pullips and have wanted to make one for myself, but have yet to locate supplies other than craft wire, and some premo & scuply. I had in mind using wire in the core joints for posing...i may give it a whirl, if i do , i will post the progress of it. it wont be perfect, but it may be interesting for a try anyway.
I have also been looking all over at the tutes on things.
I cant wait to see more of yalls progress pics!

Look up "doll making Supplies", parts, and how-to's.  There are many well known supply catalogs and instructions available on-line.  You can find the eyes, the S-hooks, all kinds of polyclay materials, etc, stringing elastic, whatever you need.

After joining Craftster I came across the BJD and researched them and i think they r awesome too, but can't justify the $ on them either. I would love to make my own, but I don't think I could sculpt a decent face....anyway I came across these dolls on eBay which you can buy and totally customize yourself!!! They are plastic, but well made and fairly inexpensive depending on which style you buy. If your spending $50 or more on supplies, this is a good alternative to go i think...

I would love to try going this route first and maybe then attempting to totally build my own. I don't know. She also has a forum you can join to learn more too....

Anyway here are some pics of the blank dolls....

Just to let everyone know, I am not affiliated in any way with this seller! I just wanted to share my find with all of you who may be interested!! Thanks Smiley
