"The Knitting Room (a Strathcare initiative) is an imaginative, collaborative project centred around older members of the Tasmanian community (many of whom live in aged care homes) magically conjured from threads and fibre. The projects creative processes harnessed their traditional skills of knitting, crocheting, weaving and stitching to fashion part of a 1950's home.

I had the pleasure of going and seeing this today and although taking photos was not allowed, luckily I managed to get permission to take a few to share (thanks to Robyn who after I explained craftster to her allowed me to do so). It was amazing to see, I wanted to touch everything.

My slightly blurry, hastily taken photos don't do it all the justice it deserves. Smiley
(If I have posted this in the wrong place I am sorry)

Sorry I should have specified, it is all pretty much life-size which (for me at least) makes it even more amazing.

OH MY GOD!!!
Is this thing touring, or do I have to get myself down south somehow??  I wonder if I could write a trip off as a business expense...
Where is it on display?  Someone even crocheted teacups, I've been wanting to knit a teaset for ages

Thanks for sharing twelvety, that's just insanely cool.  That barricade must have been pretty big, because I know I would have wanted to throw myself in those rooms and touch everything  Grin

No it's not touring unfortunately and it's only on show til May 27th Sad
As far as I understand it all goes back into storage after the show closes.
It's on show at The Moonah Arts Centre   http://www.mac.gcc.tas.gov.au/
I wish, wish, wish it could be in a permanent space
I have plans to go to it at least one more time and I am going to beg, plead and grovel to be allowed to take some more photos, I so want to share it with you guys.
You can come stay with me jane feebles if you find a way to write it off as a business expense Wink
