well, its really late and i gave up on doing homework..decided i would finally post my dress! prom was last thursday, it was an amazing time..even though it ended up pouring rain all night!! Sad but we had a blast.

anyways, heres the dress--its designed after the one jessica alba wore by gucci. one of my family friends helped me make it! the material was beaded silk, with an ivory satin underneath. the black was surprisingly just black spandex--cheap and stretchy! the beaded fabric was pretty hard to sew with because the machine wouldnt go through the beads, it had to be hemmed by hand..AND we ended up having about 3 days to make the dress--i literally picked it up at 4 pm the day of my prom! its a long story..but all was good, and so here it is, hope you like it!

me and my boy (i know..hes short lol)

love you grandma

the back (you could almost see my crack--we had to safetypin it to my underwear! ahah)

me, my best friend Sophia and the boys

here it is on jessica alba

comments welcome!
thanks, caitlin xox

The dress looks gorgeous!, great job.
Just a tip next time you sew beaded silk, or anything beaded mark where the stitching line is, crack the beads with pliers along that line and a bit either side so the presser foot on the machine can move the fabric easily.
(warning: when cracking beads put your hand over the pliers so that beads don't hit you in the eye or face)

I agree that your version is way better.  Yours is very sexy while the other is kinda skanky.

Wow, what a great job. I agree with the others, your version is better (and very similar to the original, I'm really impressed). The original almost looks like the fabric is pulling since it's so tight on the backside. Yours has a much more natural fit.

I like how you did the lace on the front better than the original. The original looks like they said, "Oh... and it needs a little something else." Yours looks intentional.

i actually like your dress better than the original!! its a curvy and sophisticated look, whereas ms. alba's is more "fashiony" but makes her look like she has bizarre proportions (or maybe its just because she is so skinny she might break).

did i mention i love your dress?

Your dress turned out super nice. It's a really accurate recreation of the original, but I like that it's not exactly the same. I agree with stereoette, I like yours better!

tickleagangster--i didnt use a pattern, but we made a mock-up of it first to get the right fit before cutting the real material

Ah. The real one isn't even lace. It's like a sort of mesh-y thingie. Yours is better. <3

Sorry to say it, but I think another model would more suitable for your type of body... I mean, Jessica Alba is very slim and the original Gucci dress is probably made exactly for her.
