Here's a project I did with our Brownie troop.  I got the kit for the plates from www.makit.com .  The girls colored theirs with markers, but I did some stamping when I had the free time.  You send them off, and UPS brings you a professionally molded plate with your cool design.

Cute! I've been looking to do the mix'n'match dishes thing and this might be a good solution. Is it expensive? I saw the kits with enough templates to make 50xwhatever item for $6, but nothing about how much getting the actual plate/mug/bowl costs.  Angry Could you let me know? Thanks!

The plates are about $5 each plus shipping.  The shipping for up to 10 plates is 7.00.  The plates are really durable, the prints are permanent.  The only drawback, but this is true of all melamine, is that you can't microwave on it.  It's fine in the dishwasher.

If you get the kit, the first thing you should do is throw out their crappy markers.  The RoseArt, Crayola, whatever brand markers are fine.  The instructions also said not to use black markers, but there was a black marker included with the kit, so  Huh  Some of the girls used it, and it was fine.  I did the stamping with dye inks.  I don't think the pigment, chalk, embossing inks would work.
