You could probably paint some old square cardboard boxes like dice....probably with some spray paint, and paint the little dots on them and stack them up...that would look REALLY cute....

You could decorate with playing cards and dice. Lay them around on the food table - like people do with confetti.  Also, you could make your invitations out of playing cards by glueing paper to one side and writing the where, when and what on it.

you could do a playing card curtain.  There's a tutorial here - look about halfway down the page.  You could do it as it is in the tutorial, or just do long strips of cards, like a bead curtain, and put it in a doorway.

You could decorate a rectangular cake like a card or a round cake like a roulette thingy.

How about something with the slot machine fruit?  Pineapples, cherries, plums, and oranges (I think)  You could maybe make some sort of faux slot machine (from a cardboard box, a bit more involved painting than the dice!) and put a bunch of those chocolate coins in a bin underneath.

Lots of flashy lights are very vegas as well.  Your most obnoxious flashing christmas lights, maybe use them to spell out 'baby' or 'boy' or 'girl' if you know the sex, or the baby's name if you know that.  Put tinfoil behind them for extra garishness.

I love it! Vegas, Baby!  You gotta have the flahing lights!  I love the idea of the baby name on the wall (you could use those tube lights that kind of look like neon), and you could drape velvet on either side for a fake stage effect.  Can you get someone to dress up as a cocktail waitress and circulate with a tray of drinks (lots of martini glasses, even if not all alcoholic drinks)?

You could also make coasters out of playing cards for a favor (here's a thread on that: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=7862.0.)  I remember a friend had a plastic toy slot machine when I was a kid -- don't know if they make them anymore, but could be a fun prop.  Or make a row of them out of cardboard boxes.

Decorate the food table as a poker, craps  or blackjack table with felt.  You can copy from the real thing: http://www.reviewed-casinos.com/casino_supplies/poker_blackjack_tables/.  Make a slot machine fruit salad!

And what about some big cheesy feather fans or boas?  It's not Vegas without the showgirls!  Play loads of Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and even Liza Minelli (honorary female Rat Packer).    And remember, there are no clocks or windows in casinos...

there is a new show on the food network that i watched yesterday called 'party starters'. the episode i watched was a casino surprise birthday party. they had a lot of ideas that maybe you could use like a poker chip curtain, putting a cake on a house of cards. and, being the food network, their website has all the recipes from the party. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_pt/episode/0,1976,FOOD_17977_33502,00.html

How fun!! What a great idea! Smiley

Here's a cake decoration idea ... what about getting one of those photo cakes where they can do a photo silkscreen onto the top of the cake ... using that famous Welcome to Las Vegas sign ... changing it in Photoshop to read "Welcome to Las Vegas Baby!" ie ...

A cheesey/lounge mixtape would be good ...

- Wayne Newton
- Tom Jones

Also ... doing something with this chaseable rope lighting could be a lot of fun ... Huh

Sounds like a blast ... please let us know how it went!! Smiley

For the tablecloth idea: It would probably be cheaper to get green plastic tablecloths (the disposable kind) then you could do the decorations to make it look like a blackjack/craps/roulette table out of colored electrical tape.  or stencils and spray paint

Haha ... I can't keep away from this thread ...

How about some stenciled or Gocco-ed napkins with either singers pics or other sorts of Vegas imagery?  A friend of mine made some napkins similar to this with print gocco on paper cocktail napkins ... but stencil would work too.

Wayne Baby

Sammy Baby

There are lots of stencil and gocco threads on Craftster ... a couple links showing the process fyi:

I love the ideas posted thus far, but I think people are missing the part about it being a BABY SHOWER as well (such a cute idea, I might add!)!

Some random ideas...

How about pastel Bingo cards using baby-themed cutouts (pacifier, rattles) for chips?

A sequined diaper or onesie?

Having stenciled pictures of Vegas legends with pacifiers in their mouth or a rattle in their hand?

Fuzzy Dice mixed with baby blocks on the tables?

Hope these ideas inspire you!
