Rat Toys

I was thinking about making a few toys for my rats out of some of my old clothes but could use some advise.
Such as ideas about what to stuff a few things with if i were to go down that route, or perhaps some ideas on what would be stimulating for them. In their cage they currently have a hammock type thing and a thick rope so i was trying to think of something a bit differant.
Any ideas or advise is welcome.

Growing up, my family had rats pretty constantly! They always liked jingle bells. You know those cat toys where a bell is in a plastic net-like ball? Chipper in particular spent a LOT of time arranging his jingle balls juuuuust so.

Another idea might be peanut butter based games, like peanut butter inside some small interesting object on a stretchy cord attached to the roof of the cage.

My brother and I also made playhouses out of cardboard boxes for supervised play. We would use small boxes inside bigger boxes as levels and huts and such and just used plain old masking tape to assemble stuff like climbing ramps.

A pile of crumpled tissue is always fun! I wouldn't use fabric scraps for digging in because loose threads can get tangled around their limbs. We lost a baby hamster to some well-intentioned flannel.
