Kirsten Dunst Pithy hat knitalong anyone?

Hey all,
           I've recently become a knit-aholic. For my first venture into the world of knitting in the round I thought I might attempt either of the two Kirtsen Dunst Pithy Hats as seen at http://www.littleturtleknits.com/pithyhat.htm
Has anyone else attempted these and if so which do you recommend I tackle first. And is there anyone else out there that wants to do it with me because I will most likely need help and moral support in this momentus endeavour. I've already bought 3 skeins of Jo Sharp worsted weight silk road aran (85% wool 10% silk 5% cashmere) in a red colour.

you know i was admiring that hat in Elizabethtown thru most of the movie.
I should for sure join this one...hmm what color...i think part of my admiration is due to the fact it's red, since it is my fav color...I didn't notice the one from spiderman...but i love it too
so many things i have to prepare...thanks for the inspiration and the link for the patterns!

Yikes, this reminded me that I have the pattern kicking around. I don't have the needles or a camera for the KAL, but I'll eventually make it. Thanls for the idea and motivation. In spiderman the first thing i noticed in the cafe scene was MJ's hat.

Ok so I have the needles for the e-town hat so for that reason I'm gonna try that one first. If its not working out I'll just undo it and attempt the spiderman2 hat when i get the right needles.
So I'll give the e-town hat a try and post some results as I go!

ok so I started knitting the spiderman2 hat in some left over yarn as a practice piece. I've got the first part of the ribbing done but now i'm stuck. Does anyone know how you do purse stitch?

I'm in love with "Bam Boo" by Classic Elite. It has a loose spin and is amazingly soft and light and airy. And it's made from bamboo fiber! The fabric made from this yarn will be kinda floppy, so if you find it's too floppy for you as you go along, you might have to adjust the gauge of the hat by using smaller needles and more stitches.

Does anyone know how you do purse stitch?

After the increase row you alternate these two rounds.

round 1 : *yarn over, purl two together* repeat until end of round.
round 2 : *yarn over, knit two together through the back loop* repeat until end of round.

That second round is proving tricky for me as I knit quite tightly. I'm hoping it gets easier as I go along because my hands are starting to ache
