Why don't you try and push the extra fabric in the back (evenly)closer to the top of your head, so it evenly slouches on all sides, and see if it looks any better.

Okay...I'm finally going to try the e-town hat...but i've never done cables before.  I'm just trying to make sense of the instructions...the stuff in parenthesis, is that where you put stitches on the cable holder?  I think i understand all the stitches...just don't know where the cabeling comes in.  Here's the first couple rows that start the cabeling (just so you don't have to go back to page one to find the directions Wink)
round 1-3:*purl 1 (knit 1, purl 1) three times, knit 3; repeat from * to end of round.
round 4: *purl 1 (knit 1, purl 1) three times, cable 3; repeat from * to end of round.

Ok i figured out the whole cable thing...but i don't understand what the stitches in the parenthesis is about...
ie:
Round 1-3 *purl 1 (knit 1, purl1) two times, knit 5; repeat * to end of roundwhy is the knit1, purl 1 in parenthesis?  Ok this is what i'm thinking please tell me if i'm right...
p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k5 repeat to end of round.
Ok i think i got it please correct me if i'm wrong...sometimes ya just write the question out and it seems to make sense as it goes.

Ok sorry to bother you guys again...it doesn't seem like there's anyone else left working on this...but hopefully that will work out to my advantage  Wink
On the 7th row (1st row after the ribbing) it says:
next round: knit 4 *knit 2, make 1 (use whatever increase method you like best)* to end.
When you guys got here did you repeat the entire thing till end including the knit 4...or only what is between the *?
Just curious.
Thanks

hi ruby-luv,

i think you knit 4 once, & then knit2, make 1, knit2, make 1... (til the end.)

p.s. i'm not making the hat yet...

i don't understand the cable... but i'll figure it out!

Ok so i've done my first row of cabeling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i couldn't be more excited...and it was fun!  It wasn't nearly as hard or scary as it looked!
but i have another question about the pattern (sorry to bug)

round 1-3:*purl 1 (knit 1, purl 1) two times, knit 5; repeat from * to end of round.
round 4: *purl 1 (knit 1, purl 1) two times, cable5; repeat from * to end of round.

work these two rounds until hat measures 10-11" (if you want it to be fitted more like a skull cap instead of slightly floppy like in the pic, work for 8" only) .

does this actually mean to work round 1-4 until hat measures...?
or just row 1 once, row 4 once until it measures...?
I love you guys! Thank you so much for your help so far, I really appreciate it!

Ok I finished it...just wanted to thank those who helped!  I used Patons classic Wool...it's actually the project i'm most proud of!  I have decided I love cables!  They are so easy...and keep the project interesting!  I'm now working on my second one in darker blue for the boyfriend...he wanted something soft so i found some Caron Simply Soft in the stash!
