My brother is visiting, and he's an artist and I'm supposed to show him the sites, and I was just wondering if anybody had any can't miss sites to recommend. I've got the ASU museum and possibly SMOCA and the civic center library in scottsdale. Oh, and maybe we can work in the counterculture cafe, too. I'm still pretty new here, and am pretty vacant on anything not a) craftyand cheap and b) advertised on npr. Thanks guys. You rock!

Smoca is a definite, as is the Phoenix art museum - really good stuff at both, although I think both the Warhol exhibit and the Petah Coyne exhibit (which blew my mind completely - amazing artist!) both flipped this weekend. Both are free on Thursdays. And there are a lot of sculptures in the park behind smoca worth checking out. Every Thursday night Old Town Scottsdale galleries stay open late, and I think Tempe does 3rd Thurdays (just missed first friday downtown) What kind of an artist is he? I just took an artist friend to the Desert botanical garden - is a very cool place actually. He might like it. Burton Barr library is beautiful architecture too. Feel free to IM if you need any more ideas.

We ended up at the mesa arts center. Not huge, but for $3.50, well worth your museum dime. And there are currently two weaving exhibits, and they're holding a reception for one of the weavers on the 12th. Just so you know. The other places you mentioned are now on my list. I will definitely be scoping out the galleries in scottsdale on my bro's behalf, and the thursdays are free thing is so awesome! My brother is a sculptor. Thanks so much for your input!
