I made these for a collection for newborns in need that my school was having. I don't know if they really count as "quilts" but they were my first real try at any kind of quilting type project. I don't know if i'll ever have the patience to make a real quilt though.  Wink

Edit: Here's a tutorialfor anyone interested.  Smiley

Materials:
1 yard backing fabric
1 yard front fabric
1 yard batting
Thread
Sewing machine

1. Lay out the batting, then the backing right side up on top of it. Then put the front on the backing right side down (so right sides of front and back will be together.)

2. Sew around all the edges leaving a 6-7 inch opening to turn. Turn the quilt right sides out.

3. Sew close to the edge all the way around the outside of the quilt. Make sure the opening gets closed when you do this. Next do 1 or 2 more borders of quilting equally spaced around the edges. (it's kind of hard to keep the fabric from bunching up here, lots of pinning helps  Wink)

Have fun! If you need anything explained better i'd be happy to try to help!

Would you mind sharing how you made them? I am a nurse in OB/GYN and we always have babies in need.

Thanks,
Tricia

I have made these out of fat quarters and slightly larger pieces for premature born babies at our local hospital. They are great teaching quilts because they are small and don't take forever, good for impatient people like myself.

I started making one of these quilts and how do you keep the corners squared?
( I am new to sewing)
they are so cute...

Thanks

I'm not quite sure if i understand the question, but i'll try. if you mean when you're sewing all 3 layers together you stop at the corner with the needle down, pick up the presser foot, and turn. After you turn it right sides out just push the corners out with a scissors (carefully) or a pencil so they are pointed. I hope that helps, if not let me know.

That is what I am doing and mine look more rounded then your picture  shown.
Maybe I am not pushing them out enough?

It could be that, also i just thought of another thing. try trimming some of the extra batting away from around the edges, that could help too.
