Alright, this challenge is my first and it was a bit hard for me because I, being my silly self, bought a painting that I thought was beautiful the way it was! But, of course, I had to alter it! So I tried to keep its original beauty albeit through my extensive glueing of foreign objects onto it >_>

This painting cost me a mere $5! My stepmother and I both thought it looked relatively familiar, but that's beside the point. Someone basically swished stokes of oil paint across a canvas and made it look pretty.

The original is of three dressed-up girls peeking in through a curtain (forgive these crappy pictures, I recently dropped my camera and it has been from then on foreverly constipated):

I immediately imagined them looking in on a ball or something of the sort, so I wanted music and light to be flowing from the room. I also wanted to jazz up their dresses but in the end decided to jazz up everything else instead. Thus, the walls are adorned with pennies and the curtains have little tassles at the top!

The difficulties I faced while completing this was initally just planning it. "What the heck do I want to DO with this?!" Then this escalated into the meticulousness of the pennies all be placed "heads up." It was a pain to have to cut all that newspaper to the EXACT SHAPE of the space between the three girls.

~ The materials I used! ~
Newspaper (the Gainesville Sun, to be exact Grin)
Pennies (lots of them)
Yarn
Beads
Old $5 painting

The title is "Heads up!" because I made sure to make every penny heads up. Otherwise, there is absolutely no connection whatsoever and it was simply a brainfart on behalf of...well, my brain.

The result (taken with my boyfriend's camera XD! Thank you, boyfriend.):

Necessary close-ups for your amusement and further enlightenment (including a foot photo op!):

It reminds me of a scene from a movie. I'm almost sure there was a movie with a couple of girls in Roman-esque clothes peeking through a curtain ... It wasn't Gladiator, was it? Was it ... something ... else...?

Oh, well. You're right, the "before" was nice -- I wouldn't have wanted to touch it, either! Wink I like your idea of it being a ball, though, with the light and music flowing in. Cool concept!

...but why on earth is there a foot in that shot? Grin

Thanks!

I haven't seen Gladiator in a long time, but I was thinking more like Phantom of the Opera or Pride & Prejudice. I know it isn't either, but it still just reminds me of it.

While I was trying to take the picture (it was placed on the floor), he had his arms crossed and he was jumping up and down and kicking his feet, like a river dance or something. It was very odd ^^;

I haven't seen it in a long time, either ... I should be Ashamed, since I love that movie and used to have it virtually memorized. My past self would have known why the original painting looked so familiar. Darn that past self with memory. Grin

And that does sound very odd. In an entertaining fashion. Wink (I have also not seen Riverdance in a long time...)

No way, I think of the movie Porky's...except instead of the guys looking in on the girls shower through the peephole, it's the girls in towels looking in at the boys, and minus the male appendage in the scene (and I'm not talking about a foot here.)   Kiss

I love what you've done with the art!  I liked it before too, but after - well, I've always loved the backstage of the theater where you can see the inner workings, and those girls are getting the best view in the house.  This looks so great!
