...of "cut towards your buddy, not your body."  now i have a deep v-shaped gouge in my thumb from my carving tool AND blood all over the cushion of my nice patio furniture, the grass, my linoleum block, and possibly the doorknob.  i think i managed to avoid getting any on my clothing, but OUCH.

funny how the first thing i do when i seriously injure myself is wrap a towel around my hand (currently elevated) and attempt to type with one hand so everyone on craftster can hear my tale of woe.

(and OH MY GOSH while i was typing this, a SPIDER went skittering across my keyboard!!  this is NOT a good day)

Well, I hope you get better. Nothing worse than hurting a crafting hand. Speaking of not heeding a family member's advice, I went to the grocery store with my brother and was loading the check out belt when he told me not to add to many items on it. Stubborn me did and 2 containers of yoghurt fell on to the floor and broke. A little off subjuct, but still embarassing.

Ouch...my friend did that last month while she was cutting dragon shapes out of foamboard.  It was late, she was tired, and she had a utility knife.  In retrospect, she thinks she should've went and had stitches instead of using a bunch of butterfly bandages over the course of a few weeks, so you might want to get it checked out if it's pretty deep and you haven't done so already.  At least her dragons turned out well, and she had a little fun making me queasy by changing the bandages while I was around.  Hopefully the project you were making turns out well, too.

Also, off topic, but great signature, xcriot.  I've got the Labyrinth soundtrack in my car CD player right now. Grin

Here's my friend's be careful which direction you cut story:

She was in a hurry, trying to cut through some really thick, bulky fabric. Had no scissors, so pulls out a big old knife (you think you know how this ends, but it's worse..). Starts sawing away from herself, but upwards. Knife slips, arcs up, tip of blade stabs her in the eye. My hubby was there, and said he just looked over to her screams, and saw blood spraying everywhere.

But, my friend's guardian angel was around that day...the knife blade slipped in the crease of her eyelid, up past the eyeball, and didn't do any damage, except a minor scar, right on the crease!!!  Shocked

Gives me the willies, just thinking about the possibilities, lol!!!

oww must've hurt! Sad the one time i got seriously injured is when i cut off the entire top section of my index finger while trying to sculpt a rubber eraser (that's right! i was still at school and bored to death!) into some weird shape with a pair of scissors. the blood went all over my desk and my teacher started freaking out Grin

You could take my advise if you deem it worthy but it mightnt work by the sound of the injury. srry i cant give you more help!  Embarrassed Embarrassed

this kind of thing is why I no longer own a cutting wheel. I owned one once. cut myself on three different fingers getting the bugger out of the packet. they were deep cuts too Sad

I have sliced, stabbed, and burned myself so many times it ain't funny.  The worst one, though was when I was hurrying to complete a project for my husband's birthday, so I didn't stop to put in a new Xacto blade.  Cut my left thumb so badly it wouldn't stop bleeding, and had to drive myself to the ER and get stitches.  I do learn, though, and now buy blades in the 100 pack and discard them after each used.
