1) I'm afraid of front bust darts.    Not sewing them, I'm fine there, but don't they make you look... pointy? I always opt for patterns with gathers or princess seams or something bc I'm afraid darts will look not-so-nice.

It's all in how you sew them.  If you want to avoid the pointiness and possible 'bubbles' in the fabric, you've got to make your last stitches run as close to the edge of said fabric as humanly possible (I get to the point where the needle's only poking through a few strands of the weave).  If they don't work the first time, tear them out and try again- you'll get the hang of it.

I made this pattern out of Oilcloth.  The perfecft BBQ dress, if you spill - just wipe if off.  Here's how it looks:

well, i had abandoned this project for a while because of sizing/gapping issues on the top. finally,  i decided if i was going to fix those problems, i might as well make it a dress i'd be more likely to wear. i made it floor length, and it now has more of a "shell" instead of the straps up top. so this is my modified version of the pattern:

You look classy and fun and maybe a little bit retro.  And a little bit like a basket, but in a good way.  Bc of the fabric.  It's a good thing.

Wow, I  just had a look at this pattern and realised that I have one almost exactly the same (Simplicity 6327) from 1975 that I found in a thrift store a while ago...I might make mine from that pattern and see how similar they are...
