OK folks! Here's the official thread for the sewalong!
Just a few notes:
There is no time limit on this
This thread is for posting questions/advice/tips/finished pics of this project.
If you have a need for the pattern to be adjusted (graded) up or down to your size, let me know- I can send directions on how to do this, or we can work out a way for me to make a graded pattern for you and send it via snail mail.
Have fun with this! We want to see how many different interpritations of this dress, through tastes, style etc. can be shown!
Don't put yourself in the hole. Jo ann's has a TON of uber cheap clearance fabric right now, but don't rush things if money is tight. like I said above, there is no time limit on this!
Drop a note here to say you're in on this, and fill us in on your progress!
Hopefully, if all goes well, we can do this with several different patterns, and develop a database of reviews that have a good number of people's opinions through actual experince.
Enjoy!

I remembered someone mentioning a fear of installing zippers in the original thread, so I will add my first tip here... I am dropping a link here to a nice detailed but simple guide to 3 different ways to install zippers.

Thanks for getting this rolling.  Cheesy  I shall pick up the pattern today, and see if there's any good discount fabric for it- otherwise, it might take me a while, but rest assured that I am determined to see this through!  BWA HA HA!

I'm curious how many people we're actually going to get into this.  It is a bit exciting, and I've already got a few other patterns in mind should this thread be a success.  Nothing keeps you motivated better than group support, and motivation to see things through to the end is one thing I lack when it comes to sewing.  (Half finished projects?  Me?  Never... eheh.  Really.)

Erm, yes.   There's this cute cherry print I'm lusting for at seven bucks a yard, but I'm not sure I can even spring for that.  We shall see: time to pillage JoAnns!

So I looked at the pattern which one do you mean? there looked to be a few variations in the same pattern.

Is it just me, or is this the exact same pattern (with some variations on sleeves/pockets)?  If so, it's available for two bucks right now rather than four at JoAnns, due to the 1.99 Simplicity pattern sale that goes until the 17th.

hillarybillary: The general premise of the sew along is (aside from helping each other out) see the wide variation that can come out of this one pattern and all our creative minds.  Pick whatever variation you like best and go with it.

Thanks Shade...I'm going to join AND tackle zippers! A quick question...on the new look pattern, what is the yardage for a larger size? I'm going to see if I can use some stash fabric!

oh ok. this sounds like fun. I hope I can find a place with patterns on sale around here. I love living in Boston but sometimes its frustrating like when you want to just run to a place like joanns or walmart you just cant do it. grrr Sad
