I'm planning a day trip to Houston. Can anyone recommend interesting fabric stores and quilt stores?

Look up High Fashion Fabrics, they're right downtown and they have a sister store that is all upholstery.

They aren't usually good for a bargain, but if you're looking for something--anything--they'll have it. They have a fairly good selection of trims/ribbons, too.

Probably too late for your trip, but I highly recommend Glick Textiles.  They're a wholesaler, open to the public, on the 59 feeder road at the Kirby exit.

Discounted everything from faux furs to drapery to upholstery to interfacing to pique to Waverly prints to ..... trims and fringes.  Dear Lord....the trims and fringes.  And the down pillow forms and the tassels.

You must go if you have the chance.  Actually, if you're close enough for a day trip, you should think about coming back for this.  Seriously.  I'm getting a chill just typing about it.
