Red Ribbon Illusion Scarf: Now with Pattern on Page 1!
«
on:
May 03, 2006 08:06:28 PM »
I made this AIDS Awareness scarf for a silent auction to raise money for my local AIDS Walk. It was my first time trying illusion knitting, and my first time making up my own pattern for a project. I really like how it turned out; now I just have to hope someone bids on it!
Hmmm... just looks liked a regular old striped scarf:
But wait! What is this strange magic?:
The auction is Tuesday; I'll let you know what happens!
~vasetthi
EDIT:
Ok, so I have no idea how to post a chart, so I wrote it out. A couple things to explain: the lines in black font are knit in black yarn, the lines in red font are knit in red yarn (you can obviously change the colors), and
every odd numbered row is knit
, straight up. I included the first few odd rows to get you started, then left them out for ease of reading. Following this pattern will make ribbons that are pretty large & in charge. I'm sure you could play with it and leave out some lines to make them smaller, if that's what you'd like. Please let me know if you have questions; I'm not always such a good communicator. Thanks for your interest in this pattern - I'm glad people are using their knitting skills for good and not evil!
Yarn: Lamb's Pride worsted, 1 skein each of red and black
Needles: size 8 straight
MC = red
CC = black

BO.
I made tassles by cutting pieces of yarn in pieces of about 14 inches each, then took 3 of one color, folded them in half and pulled the loop through the scarf with a crochet hook. Bring the ends through the loop and pull tight. I alternated red and black along the edge.
Happy knitting - I'd love to see your FOs!

That's great! I'm sure you won't have any trouble getting someone to bid on that. All the non-knitters (and most of the knitters) will be amazed.
