I have two pairs of shoes that I never ever wear. They both have this awful mauve color, and when I wear mauve I feel like an old lady. (You would think I wouldn't buy mauve then, but nope, I fall for its allure at the store.) On the other hand, I really love non-mauve pinks, so I got some ribbon and went crazy.
Pair #1- brown suede-ish loafer style shoes. Whenever I wore these, I felt about twice my age, and like a yuppy.
So I ripped out the mauve velvet ribbon stuff. (This ended up being really gross because I had worn these shoes once when it rained, and the suede stuff had gooped onto the velvet and was all sticky.
Now they are these obnoxiously bright hot mamas. I heart them a lot.
Yea, I know I just changed out the ribbon, but it's a big difference to me because now I'll actually wear them.
Pair #2- mauve ballet slipper-y shoes.
These I had at least gotten more wear out of, but the bows and I didn't get along, and I didn't like the color. Do not be deceived by the lies my camera tells you- they are mauve.
I ripped the bows off, and hot glued some ribbon on. I'm not sure what I think about these as much, but they'd been in the back of my closet for about a year so it's not like they'll get worn any less than they were. On the right shoe (the left one in the pic because my legs are crossed), I tried hot gluing the ribbon on while the shoe was on my foot (which isn't as stupid as it sounds, I promise! I didn't get burned), but the ribbon ended up too baggy. On the left shoe (right in pic), I didn't do this, but I should have left a little bit more slack because it's a tiny bit snug.
This is my first successful recon, so yay!
