Drag it out of the trash... and make it beautiful

A few disclaimers before we begin:  The idea of combining images from Chick Tracts and hardcore pornography is one I've been fooling with for a while.  My original thought was more whimsical - this is more serious.  However, it isn't my intent to offend anyone with this.  I'm simply bothered by the idea that certain people feel it necessary to lie about condoms and other methods of birth control/STD prevention in an attempt to keep teenagers from getting busy.  I think it does more harm than good.  But that's my opinion.

Also, although I covered up naughty bits, it is very very very clear what the people in these pictures are doing.  If you don't want to see people getting naughty, don't read any further.

Are we good?  Okay.  Here we go.

I started with this:

And I turned it into this:

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/pp2/portal/medicalinfo/teensexualhealth/fact-abstinence-education.xml

Abstinence-only sex ed has lead to some scary, scary things being taught IN OUR SCHOOLS.  It is bothersome to say the least, but it's not a topic that gets much press.  I hadn't thought about it much myself until I read about it in (of all unlikely places) Glamour magazine.  It's truly frightening.

Also, certain religous groups have been pushing this doctrine in Africa, where HIV is epidemic and knowledge is vital to human survival.  So...  yeah.  It's out there.  And it's doing damage.

this is brilliant. its a good balance between 'sex is really ok' and 'their message is quite damaging'
It is rather terifying that they push this in Africa, a place where AIDS is an absolute problem.

Very nice! Not something I'd hang on my wall, but most great art wouldn't go with my decor. I absolutely LOVE this entry on several levels. Good job!

it's great, I find it so terrifying that not only do people get away with saying this stuff, but they are listened to. AIDS is a problem everywhere and teaching kids that abstinence is the only way is not only ineffective, it can be pretty damaging in all sorts of ways. Well done

I love how they say that sex against Marriage is naughty, and God Said that it Shoudl Not Be Done. Pshh. Bullshite. Adam and Eve weren't technically married, and God said, hey, go do it. In  fact, I believe there is a story where God tells the Good Guys to go and kill the Bad Guys and take their women. What, to be married? Not to mention the fact that Lot offered up his daughters to save his own arse (literally) And pft, "God Said to kill people who commited adultery" not people. Women. The women were to be stoned, men were just driven out. In fact, you could accuse a woman of adultery and she'd get stoned. Rarrgh raggr raar Chick Tracts! *deep breath* Anyway, I love this painting. You did very good. The rant is not your fault, really. This is awesome.
