Bascially a friend of mine has cancer she is only young. i mean  like my age. and there is nothing left they can do to help anymore. which is so incredibly sad.  Sad
i just want to make a gift for her of some sort like a box of really fun happy stuff. But i also want to make something for her sister cos i just can't imagine how she must be feeling and i am pretty close to them both and i am very worried about her.  and i really want to show her how much we all care about them both.

I was just wondering if you had any good ideas that i could do quickly cos i want to get it to her as soon as possible you know?

i just want it to be something she can look at and smile about.

i have already thought of putting this poem in that we shared and like amix cd and pictures but its so hard cos i just don't want to make things harder for her having to look at all this stuff you know.. =[
Thanks.

That is so sad!
I don't really know what to suggest... while the poem and such that you two have memories together of is sweet... it might be hard to remember? I would try to make everything new, so it's creating memories and not thinking too much that her life is in the past?
What does she like?

Edit: I don't know if this made any sense.

I'd include an instant camera, so she and her sister can take a lot of pics together, so the sister will have meaningful momentos later.

I'd also include regular fun stuff, like her fave movie, candy and maybe makeup.

I know as a teen I loved playing with makeup.

So sorry to hear about this, but it is a nice idea.

What are some of the dreams she had for her future?  Is there any way that you could recreate them in any way?  I'm not sure if I'm making sense here.  Also, what about her hobbies?  I'd say movie marathons, lots of CDs, makeovers, lots of books or crafts, things that she can do while being sick. You may be able to find more ideas on websites about Make a Wish Foundation, etc.

I'm so sorry to hear this.

Also, maybe you could get lots of people to write her letters, postcards, draw her things, etc to show she is cared about.  Keep it hopeful, you never know when a miracle can happen!  If it doesn't, what a great scrapbook her family will have to remember how loved their daughter/sister was.

What about having here 'travel the world' with postcards from craftster members? You know like people always dream of travelling the world - you could even send around a mini-her to travel the world - I dunno Smiley

How sick is she, if you and her sister and her (and maybe a few other friends) could take a trip somewhere it could be local - and have a great time away that might be fun for everyone  Undecided

And obviously makeawish foundation would be GREAT.

Ooh I just read something in our local paper the other day, this lady had terminal cancer and her work colleguages had a special day where they wore pyjamas to work (and raised money for a charity of her choosing) and had like a slumber day, folks painted her nails etc. But I guess for that you have to be post-acceptance phase - If you want I'll look out the article Smiley

My best freinds  mom is ill with a very rare form of cancer right now, we are praying for a recovery for her ofcourse but in the meantime things that she has enjoyed getting were very pretty Candies brand hats if you are very savy maybe make one for her?  People have gotten her lots of pretty blankets to keep her warm but a nice idea for making a blanky is a pocket for the feet thats really cozy or a pocket on top for the remotes or things like that.  Maybe make her a pretty blanket and either with paint pens or embroidery write some meaningful quotes or short funny stories about the fun things you guys have done togethor over the years if you want to get fancy do some iron pics of her and you and the sister on it as well.  There are also inspirational books you could get her and write a message in, I think The Giving Tree is so lovely to read and give as a gift.  Or you could get her some gift certificates for at home massages or pampering.  Maybe get togethor with others and make a book for certificates from all of you like yardwork. manicures, backrubs. bitch fests. slumber parties etc.  Fund raising maybe something her or her family may need as well.  I am so sorry to hear about your friend!  You are a great friend to her it really came across in your post and I will pray for her and ofcourse for you for strength to endure this all with her!  The greatest gift is friendship and you are being a wonderful and caring friend so I am sure whatever you can do for her right now is apreciated and cherished God Bless you both!

I like the idea of bracelets.  Along the same lines as the blanket with quotes, what about having a quilt-square party?  There are plenty of threads around Craftster and resources on the internet for coloring fabric with crayon and maybe then heatsetting it?  (I've never done it so I'm not 100% sure, but my mother has, and it produces lovely results.)  Anyway, you could cut 12" squares out of cotton quilting fabric and then have a party with you and your friend and her sister, and maybe other people as well.. make it a girls day, or include father, brothers, boy friends, etc.  Everybody can color squares however they want.  Sign them, write quotes, draw pictures.  Even younger siblings or friends could get into this one, and you might be surprised by what can be done with crayons in the hands of someone with artistic ability.  Then do whatever it is you need to do to set the crayon color in the fabric and make quilts.  If you make it a big, fun afternoon project, you could theoretically get enough squares to make a blanket each for you, your friend and her sister.  Then, she has this wonderful fun thing to remember, that isn't so sad, and keeps her warm, and snuggly and wrapped in the love of her friends and family.  And you each have your own memento of that special day.
