Ode to Motherhood

(This is my first time posting a project on Craftster. Woo!)

I had a little trouble finding a piece to use for this. With the exception of an impressively trippy and hideous cross-stich turtle, all the framed art at Savers was actually very nice. And nothing inspired me. Then, I found this:

I see these sorts of things around my town all the time - wooden cut-outs of colonial girls in bonnets. (Why?)
So, I took off the arm and bonnet pieces off, scraped away as much of the dried glue as I could, painted the girl's face and hair and the baby's face and a bit of swaddling clothes. And then, I decoupaged for the first time and created a motherhood-themed collage using pictures and articles from old issues of Parents, and a clip from an old American Girl magazine.

And here's the result:


Details:

The text says "I love you the minute I saw you." I outlined it in black sharpie to make it stand out more.

i already commented how i love this... and i just showed it to my husband who was like "wow, that's so amazing!"
