Halfway through the project I realized I wasn't going to have enough yarn so I had to make it shorter than I planned.

This is my 3rd garment. I'm hooked!

Instructions:

MATERIALS
I used 200 grams of this yarn: href="http://www.yarndex.com/yarn.cfm?yarn_id=937. If you want to make it longer I'd get 300g.

Find a shirt that perfectly fits you and measure its width. Figure out your gauge according to that width. Mine was 30in. across.

This pattern uses two strands of yarn held together. Both yarns can be the same color or different colors.

BACK
Using two strands of yarn held together knit in Stockinette stitch to your desired length and bind off on wrong side. Mine was 9.5" long.

FRONT
Cast on same number of stitches as back and knit Stockinette until you reach the same length as the back piece, ending with a purl row. You'll begin to shape the top.

Bind off two stitches at the beginning, knit across until end.
Bind off two stitches at the beginning, purl across.
Then decrease 1 stitch each side every knit row until your desired length, bind off on wrong side.

STRAPS
Using single yarn, pick up 3 stitches at the edge of the top of the front piece and knit in garter stitch until you reach 11 in. Repeat at the other end.

FINISHING
Sew the sides together using the mattress stitch. You can see a video demo of this at  http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/misc.php (just scroll down until you see it).

Note: I did the decreases K2tog but you can do whatever decrease method you prefer.

**Happy knitting! Feel free to ask any questions. This was my first time writing a pattern so I may have forgotten something. Let me know if you run into problems.**

That's really cute. I think you could extend it if you wanted to with some coordinating blue or yellow yarn if you come across some.

I really like it!  My daughter would look great in it.  Do you have a pattern?  The colors are beautiful.

I really love the colors.  And lucky you're nice and tan....if I had ended a shirt that short, everyone would have screamed at my impossibly pale stomach. But with your tan it looks great.  So yay for tans! Smiley

The halter top looks great.  Is the yarn you used Cabana by Reynolds?  The link is a little bit confusing.
