I had a friend ask me to make her a "Laptop bag".  I wanted it to be perfect, so I turned to Craftster for help.

Ok, everything I did here was inspired by fellow Craftsters.  Now - I know my work isn't nearly as good as the craftsters who inspired me..but my friend is pleased.  And I'm happy with the accomplishment.  Now, I get to go back to making furniture.  LOL

So, the sleeve was inspired by jazfitz's "Click-Clack.... Typewriter Laptop Sleeve & Tote Set! Success!!" (and her photographer's set with messenger bag came out after I had already started this set)

The messenger bag was inspired by AmandaJ's "my latest creation - messenger bag"
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=38587.0

I used the zipper pocket tutorial "Zipper pocket tutorial (messenger bag & jordy bag)"  by SewPixie for under the flap as well as inside the bag.

And this is what I came up with:
First, the sleeve:

The sleeve with my laptop (my laptop is much smaller than her laptop):

The sleeve with the bag:

The bag front:

The bag back:

The bag with flap up and sleeve ready to slide in:

Closeup of pockets under flap (there is also a zipper pocket up above the blue strip:

Inside the bag (with inside zipper pocket open)...I put a tag inside - how cool am I?  lol:

this is awesome!  my friend recently made a case out of two or three old t-shirts.  it looks great, but barely protects the computer (except from scratches n things.)  this is much more pragmatic, and looks great. Wink

Thanks everyone for your responses (I'm a little late getting back...been working a LOT).

My friend took her first business trip with her laptop bag and was ecstatic about how much it holds.  It was so perfect for her.  She is knitting me a fuzzy orange scarf!  Smiley

I just wanted to say that I forgot one other kudos that needed to be mentioned....the tag!

I used the "Tutorial for Personalized Labels" by vanityandagun http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=40044.0
