What a great find! I love how you spiced up the picture based on the story, really cool!

From the book Godless:

Just Al: I know that God is real. I feel his presence in my heart
Me: What does it feel like?
Just Al: It's hard to describe Jason. It feels good.
Me: Oh. I thought maybe it was like heartburn or something.

I love how your revamp is an homage to that story! It really makes me curious about the person who wrote it and painted the original picture. It's too bad your work and the story can't be displayed side by side! Anyway, great job.

That is utterly amazing.  It always suprises me when I find things like books with long, personal messages in them at a thrift store.  A painting like that is even more shocking.  I guess people just aren't very sentimental.  I'm glad you could take that painting and give it a good home, it's so lovely I'd hang it on my own wall! I love Nanny Beatrice Grace's expression.

Wow!  A piece of folk art from Rabun Gap!  There is a whole series of non-fiction books about Rabun Gap and the traditions and lifestyles of "old Appalachia" called "Foxfire".  There are at least a dozen books and I've read half of them.  You can learn more at:

http://www.foxfire.org/index.html

Among MANY other things, the books include great instructions for doing traditional appalachian crafts such as basket weaving, quilting, soap making, etc.  Check one out from your library - you will love it!

Haha lovely! I like it...

Someone mentioned that it would be nice if you could have the story and the artwork side by side... I concur.  Wink

that's such a great piece. Maybe you could display it hanging from the ceiling so that the story on the back can be read too. That would be pretty cool.
