Went to the thrift store today and got two of these yellow ribbed cotton placemats for 69 cents.
45 minutes later....

materials:
1 lemon yellow placemat from thrift store- 35 cents
lining fabric from my stash
nylon webbing handles-  1.30
1 zipper- 30 cents
orange and white striped ribbon- 25 cents for the 3 yard roll and I only used about half a yard
vintage aqua suede-covered button

here is the inside, which has a zipper pocket and kind of looks like cross section of oranges

so now I still have another yellow placemat left. Which will no doubt become a bag this weekend.  Shocked

It's a standard placemat folded in half, so the finished size is about 12" wide x 8" tall (not counting straps)
I love that lining too and it's been in my stash for about 3 or 4 years waiting for a project. It was one of those fabrics I just bought cuz it was so cute, but had no idea what to do with it. I do that way too much, actually! LOL

I got the lining at Joann fabrics but it was at least 3 years ago so I don't know if it's still available. The printing goes right up the the selvage too, there's no brand name or information on either selvage so I don't even know who made it. It was in the same fabric group as the lining for these 2 bags , I bought all 3 prints at the same time

I think they were one of those random shipments Joann gets that's not reorderable and they just call them"special value" prints or something and sell them until they are gone.

I have that EXACT same fabric that you used in your lining!!!  I love how you used it.  I just found it about a month ago at the bottom of my stash with a coordinating yellow-ish fabric and for the life of me I don't know what I thought I was going to make with them, there are at least 3 yards of each!  You have totally inspired me   Grin

Great work
