Beautiful Dress.  I really like it with the ribbon.  As for adding ribbon or a flower, do what you feel comfortable with.  Its your prom; have fun with it!

It looks more catching with the ribbon. W/o it seems plain.

I made that same dress! Only, in green faux-suede.
I like the black ribbon. Even a red one would look pretty awesome.
Although, it looks nice without it too.
Hmm.. I say put it on. It looks too nice to leave off.
Congrats! I think it looks very vintage, which is awesome.

It looks really pretty and unusual. I think you could vary it enough with accessories like necklaces, chokers, lace chokers, a silk shawl(for the vintage look) or shoes/etc. to not have to worry about it either way. Depending on how you feel at the time, I'd just adjust the dress to your mood. It is really beautiful, flattering and vintagey. One thing that was often done was to have a sheer wrap of some kind over the strapless dress, especially in warm weather. That way you can have your shoulders showing either way. Choker strands of pearls or other choker type jewelry went with the vintage evening dress as well in the 40-50's.

Great dress! I like it with the belt. I wish mine wasn't store bought. My dumb machines, yes machines, both broke. Ugh...

Thank You everyone for your great and useful opinions!!!!!!!

After some thought I decided to go to the fabric store and pick up some tulle for underneath the dress.

But then........I had a great idea about some fabric I stumbled upon.

So, I made ANOTHER prom dress. This one is alot more promish. After I got home today I started sewing and didn't stop until about 8 hours later!!

Here it is, I thought I was going to wear the one I had just made, But I just fell in love with the dress I made today Smiley

I used the same pattern as before and the lace around the waist just ties and is hanging down in the back Smiley

Once again thanks for all the good advice although I do Think I am going to wear this one instead Smiley

I need to stop being so indecisive!!

wow! you are insane! the second dress is definately more prom-ish. my only suggestion is to make the sash a bit narrower. maybe you could wear both that night . . .
