I made a dress on my day off from work and school Smiley

Here it is on the dress form

And......On me!

So, I have a few questions!!!

Do you thing it looks better with this black ribbon on it?
(This picture was taken before I hemmed the top.)

Also, I think I want to wear this to prom. I just don't know if it looks quite promish. I kind of wanted a more vintagy feel. What do you think??? I guess It would definitly not be like anyone elses dress.

* I used Mcalls #M5001 For the pattern*

I defiantly like it better with the black ribbon. Looks really cute Smiley

Wow, it looks awesome! I wish i wore something more different and I think yours looks good and vintagey-like. I prefer it with the ribbon on. I bet you'll get mass amounts of compliments  Grin

I like it without the ribbon, I think it looks...sleeker, kind of.
I think it looks good, if you wanted to wear it to prom! You could make it look more formal with tights/opaques/pantyhose/whatever you call them underneath, or even fishnets, or those lacy tights.
and, the ribbon probably makes it more formal as well.  you could even move the ribbon higher up onto your waist, or empire-line-ish under your bust, I don't know.

'Tis a lovely dress and you are sure to be the only one wearing it. I love that fabric. It's muted but still very pretty. You did a great job with the construction as well and it fits you perfectly.
I would wear it to prom. (I don't know how much my opinion counts for,  since I wore a dress I already had to my prom.) But really, as long as you love it, I say wear it.
I think it looks better without that ribbon. If you really want to add a belt, I'd go for a wider one in a different color. Maybe something the same color as your broach? The black just really doesn't go with the colors of the dress, for me. If you can crochet, a (simplified) crochet belt from Happy Hooker would look great.
Just my 2 cents.

i think it is lovely and prefer it with the belt, but without the flower. is the flower removable? i think it would look elegant and yet keep the vintage feel that way.

it looks really cute, especially with the ribbon, and I would totally wear it to prom

I like it with a ribbon, but maybe you could match the dark pink or dark green in the fabric instead of black so you still have the contrast but it's more coordinated.

If you want to dress it up, a little tulle or lace edging on the bottom (and possibly top) might be nice, in gray or matching one of the lighter/middle colors, or cream would go well and not change the simple style too drastically.
