So after spending what felt like an eternity at the mall today I finally found a dress that I liked but that was a little bit too long than what I was looking for.  I decided when I got home to sew a shorter dress based on that one.  I had no idea how it was going to turn out until it was done but I am pretty happy with the final dress.  Other than an apron that I made a pattern up for, this is my first "from scratch" outfit that I didn't use a pattern for.  Comments/criticism are welcome.  Thanks for looking!!  Smiley

Have a great weekend!

I'd like to represent you as your accountant and boyfriend, if that's at all possible.

WOW!!!! I've been making my own cloths for years and would not want to go up against you in a competition.  You might want to work out putting something decorative/interesting in the center of the bust/waistline. see where there is a little "pinch" to the fabric? everything else lies so smooth and that little bit of unwanted fold is distracting. when you make a fitted bust line such as this one, you have to either compensate by not cutting the "skirt" in a straight line here. you know, kinda a W shape going on in there for the bust line. or make it totally gathered. i've seen lots of tops and dresses in the stores that are made that way.  but honestly your skill and knowledge and courage are GREAT!!!!

Thanks everyone so much for the comments!!!  Cheesy

IAMCHAR, thank you for the advise, I definately see what you are saying with the gather at the front.  I am planning on sewing another dress like this for my roommate and I will try cutting the top of the skirt in a W shape and see how that goes.
