The New Year brings lots of crafting!

My birthday is Thursday and I wanted something special to wear.  (I'll be turning 21!)  So I figured I'd try making something.  This was the first time I'd ever tried to make clothing, and I'm pretty happy with how it came out.  It took the better part of two days though, whew!

I used a bathing suit top as the model for the bust, but I ended up making the triangles the same size as the top.  (I'd wanted to make them bigger, originally.)

So I added a few ruffles/pleats, which covered up everything I didn't think was appropriate outside of the beach!

So what do you guys think?  Oh, and excuse the pj pants; it's a lazy Sunday afterall.  I'd wear this with jeans normally.  I took lots of pictures of the whole process, with you guys in mind (is that sad?) so I can post a tutorial if anyone would like...  Undecided Tongue

edit: The pictures work now, yay! Grin

Thanks.  I'm not sure if I like the ruffle in the middle though.  It's handsewn, so I can think about it.

Middle cleavage is ok, but the outside showing was just not working.  (As you can see in the picture!)  Thanks for the comments though!

That's a fun top!  I agree, the middle ruffle isn't as flattering/cute as the side ones.
What is the fabric on the ruffle a plaid?

What are the plans for the big day???                 What are the plans for the big day???    What are the plans for the big day??

Yeah, its a pink and black plaid.  I have no idea what I should do.  Prolly go somewhere and get carded.  I doubt I would enjoy going to an actual bar, but then I wouldn't know...

I really like it! The color is great and i agree with a few others that it would look better is you removed the middle ruffle! It looks really great!

i like the initial version, without the ruffles.  i think the ruffles just make it look wierd.  if it was me, i'd just take it in where it was too "revealing"

I am not too sure about the middle cleavage ruffles, but the rest of it is very cute!
