Okay, I love how the top of Ashley's dress is and I'd like to try and make a dress (or just a top) that is similar to it but I'm always afraid of doing things without a pattern or at least a tutorial to follow because I always make stupid mistakes.

But, my basic idea is to cut two long rectangles (or perhaps triangles?) for the bust part and sort of gather it a little in the middle where it would touch the shoulder and then just another band for the waist (which I would just make longer for a top) but what about for the skirt part of the dress?

Does this sound sort of correct?

Thanks for any help!

Your idea sounds good. For the skirt, make a long rectangle, and fit it into the waistband (gathered, it looks like)

I am not sure, but unless that fabric is a stretch, there will be a zip or something somewhere in the waistband, to enable getting into it at all.

I, personally, am lusting after the other one's jacket thing...mmmmm....
