we are in the middle of preparing to move back east from colorado in six weeks.  a few weeks ago i began sorting out my yarn and organizing everything i had so i could box it all up without worrying i was going to forget/lose/buy stuff i already had while we were moving (twice) over the summer. (no minor feat, i tell you).  I discovered some beautiful lopi i had been given as a gift as well as some manos from a sweater made and frogged (pilling of single ply yarn is my worst enemy). they were projectless, but now i believe would make the best kitty pi.

Bethann, did you follow the pattern exactly? how big is your kitty? Our cat Desmond is 13 lbs. and 2 years hold, so hopefully fully grown.  he also LOVES my yarn /craft room so i hope will take to the bed nicely.

i figure i can only felt it to the size i want and bigger is better than smaller, but i worry after a beautiful mild colorado winter my little man is  going to freeze in philadelphia next year so i want it as dense and comfy as possible! (and our dog has a swanky shearling/wool  bed he sleeps on every night and i want desmond to have a nice bed, too.  no sibling rivalry here!)

thanks for posting these...i am inspired to start this for the road trip!

my cat's about the same size as yours, and he doesn't fit in mine (pics on the first page). i think if i make another one, i'd double the pattern.

erincatherine - my Becca is about 11 lbs, and I followed the pattern exactly. You may want to add another round or two of increases. It will still be a quick knit. I made mine in just a few days.

My sister's cat is named Desmond too!

your kitty may love it the way it is, though. i was afraid Kai wouldn't use it, but he tries his hardest to fit on top of it:

lol. he tucks his tail under and hugs his feet and everything!

Oh my God.  All those pictures are so funny - I just laughed really loud at work.  rockstr - that picture on the first page when he's just looking up at you like "you've got to be kidding" is great.  And I love olga's pictures too - especially when he's passed out on the bed but still has his feet in the kitty pi.

I should definitely make this.  My mom crocheted a cat bed for my two cats, but one of them claimed it as his, so I've been meaning to make another one and see what happens.  He'll probably claim that one too.  I've been wanting to try felting, but I don't normally like how felted stuff looks.

You know, for kids.
