Thank you so much for the tutorial! I'm just starting out on sewing, and this was the biggest, most difficult, and cutest thing I've made. I love how it turned out.

The only thing I had trouble with was straps. Many troubles with straps. First, I cut them the width of my fabric (44") because I didn't think 6 inches would make a big difference. I was wrong. So I cut out 6 inches and sewed them to the 44 inches.

Then, when it came time to attach them to the bag, I couldn't figure out how to attach them by machine (the top was finished, the sides were closed) and my hand-sewing is horrible. I don't know what I missed there, so I ended up tearing out a side to sew on the straps, and then resewing that.

And my final strap error was attaching them wrong (ie, one end of a strap on Side A and the other end on Side. B, as opposed to both ends being on Side A. I was so fed up with the bag at that point I just cut the straps down the middle and sewed them together how they should be.

So, apart from my patchwork straps, I love the bag! Thanks a million!

i LOVE this tute!  i (literally) just finished my bag and i plan on making some more very soon!  i also had trouble with the straps, i twisted the first strap so to make it even i twisted the second one too! Cheesy  i was lucky enough to have the fabric in my stash so this was very easy and fun for me!  thank you so much!

It took me a few nights, but I'm done.  I wanted the straps longer, so I adjusted the length to about 34" for the handles.  I used some cute black flower & dot canvas fabric bought on the clearance rack at Joanns.  I can't say it was an easy pattern/instructions, but I did make it through w/o complications.  Probably won't make a reversible tote again even though it was a fun challenge.  There's usually one pattern combo that I prefer.  Instructions could easily convert to do away with the reversible part.  Overall, I like the size & the pockets.   Smiley  I love my bag!

Thanks for the free tutorial!   Cheesy

The system won't let me post pix directly because I'm so new here...so here's my links to my black flower & polka dot bag.

I'm going to try posting photos again now that I've proven myself a worthy craftster poster.  haha   Grin

I'm looking forward to using this bag as my overseas craft travel tote to keep me busy on the plane.
