Funny you should ask, because I just had that conversation two days ago.  When I ran out of Nancy Drews, I read Trixie Belden.  I sold a Trixie Belden book at the bookstore on Friday night, and I had that entire conversation with the person who bought it (I didn't know they'd been reissued).  Different cover, of course.  None of that "Trixie profile" looking at the illustration in a circle.

I loved Trixie. She had that flawed human frailty thing going for her! No one ever knows about her, though!

While I'm not in the swap and not a librarian - I have to jump in here!LOL

I love all the stuff I've seen so far!  You gals are so inventive.

Batgirl - I loved Trixie Belden, but better than either Trixie or Nancy (though not mysteries per se) were the Beany Malone books.  No one ever knows who poor Beany is!  Very difficult to find also.

On a side note - two of my cousins work in libraries (one librarian, one aide) - at the same library!LOL

I guess my partner either can't post pics or hasn't found the gallery. I wish I'd remembered to take some before I sent! Cry I used a librarian pinup theme and made bookplates, a mirror, a book shaped box, bookmark, glasses case and glasses "cord" thingy, all turquoise and red with vintage pin ups.  They were fun to make!! Maybe my partner will post pics eventually...

I got spoiled by Vtgirl!!

Some rockin' magnets with sassy and kitschy librarians:

A nice note and a handsewn bookmark!

I told her I like Shel Silverstein's books, so she crafted up some of his brilliant drawings! Such as...a handbag just the right size for a book or two with a cute camel and pretty lining:

A lovely little purple and pink glittery box with illustrations decoupaged of a candle and a kid "where the sidewalk ends," and a book thong:
[/img]

Gorgeous handmade greeting cards with Shel Silverstein poems and illustrations:

And a thirt with a little person reading a big book ironed on!  It's "Memorizin' Mo"!!

Told you I got spoiled!  Great job Vtgirl!!

Yahoo!  More Shel Silverstein.  (That could be a whole swap theme, couldn't it?)  I actually used that same image of the person reading a book when I sent an angel package for the first round.  It was the first swap package I ever sent, and it was before my 30 Craftster days!  Smiley  I like that illustration a lot.

That's a great package.  And it sounds like batgirl sent some nifty goodies, too!

More on the semi-on topic (LOL) topic of little-known children's books! Did anyone ever read a trilogy called "The Swing in the Summerhouse," "The Astonishing Stereoscope," and "The Diamond in the Window" set in Concord MA, with a brother and sister named Eleanor and Eddie? It focused a lot on trancedental meditation and Emerson & Thoreau. They were thoroughly weird and very 70's but I LOVED them. I have never met anyone else who's heard of them, in fact, if I didn't still have them I'd swear I imagined them!

Never heard of those, I must admit (although they sound fas-cintating) but if we're on kid's books does anyone remember The Naughiest Girl in the World (or something) books? They were about this girl's little sister who was the naughtiest girl in the world and got up to all sorts of terrible things.  My niece reminds me of her (oh yes indeedy) so I've been thinking about them lately.
I think they were british, and the girls often ended up at tea or birthday parties where everyone would have jellies and cakes.
They were the best.  I've love to give them to my niece (she lives in another town, so I'm pretty safe if she gets ideas  Tongue)

Oh, and Trixie kicks Nancy's butt, fo sho

jane_feebles - It's 'My Naughty Little Sister' by Dorothy Edwards, Illustrated by Shirly Hughes! (can you tell I'm obsessed? Tongue)

My grandma used to read me them (I still have the books Smiley) The illustrations are adorable, and I love all the references to chimney sweeps and tea parties and stuff (and the one where she learns how to knit)

Ahhh... Cheesy
