so i just purchased 2 chairs from ikea.  i opted for the red slipcovers, thinking they may go with my red couch.  the two reds don't totally go together, the chair slipcovers are an orangier red compared to the blood red couch.

so my boy and i have been discussing about dyeing them.  either a darker red, chocolate brown, or black.  the material is 100% polyester, and it is a fleecey like material.

so here are my questions, has anyone ever dyed slipcovers or anything similar?  the only sort of dye i know about is ritt from kmart or the like.  are there other types of dye better for this type of project?

what color would be easiest to dye them?  a darker red, since it is already red?  or will the black or dark brown, fully cover the red (i don't want red streaks).

another conern is having the dye set.  i don't want to stand up with a discolored bum!  plus i have two kitties and they claim any sort of chair as their throne, so i'll need it to be safe for them.

any tips would be most appreciated!!
