So, I'm making this bag for my boyfriend to give to his mother for Mother's Day. The purse is a placemat, so its not like I have an extra yard or two of the exact fabric hanging around (unless I go buy another $5 placemat to rip up?) to help.
Anyway. My question is... HOW do I get these handles on?! They didnt even come with instructions! I recently made a cute purse and used embriodery floss to hold the handles on, but it was a different set of handles. I thought I could figure these out, but I have NO clue. help!

This is the handle.. there are 2.

This is the purse...

ideas? advice?

If you already made the purse, you might want to make a couple of loops on each side--make a tab, flop it over the handle bar and then sew it down on the other side--at least that is what this newbie would do in a pinch!  I have seen other people sew the whole side of the bag around that barbut Before they finished the purse--hope this helps get your ideas going at least--maybe you could even do ribbon loops?

OH, I did that too...but the handles I used were just round ones, made from the same bamboo stuff as those.
I got ribbon, and cut it into tabs, and used that to hold the handles on.
It was for a swap, so you can kind of see it in this picture

Hope that helps!

WOW! Jelly, I actually like it better with the loops!  Amazing how sometimes the mistakes make you do an even better job!  If you had not said anything, I would have thought you had done it on purpose!  That bag is very cute--I think ASH's bag would be cute with loops too!

Wow, those tabs are VERY cute.
The placemat I used was double sided, so I didnt use a liner.. So Im wondering if it looked bad if I just sewed on some tabs & didnt hide where they were sewn on?

Actually, I'm starting to wonder if she would even like these handles.
She might want something a little more convienent that you can just throw on your shoulder & go.

Brilliant, PANDA! We are all going to steal this idea for our washable bags!

If you decide to go the ribbon loop route, you can sew buttons on just as deocrative accents where the tabs are sewn on.

Thats a really good idea too!!!
I made a different purse tonight (digicam has no batteries) and I used ribbon to make tabs to hold the handles on. I used plastic black upside down U shpaed handles... But NOW my concern is... :-( The ribbon slides around.. Does anyone else have a problem w/ this? Or does it really not even matter?? I also think I sewed it on a little bit wrong, because I sewed the ribbon on from the inside of the purse, so the outside of the top kind of curls over.. Its like there is tension being put on the spot where the ribbon was sewen in.
