Ok. This is probably a case of "everyone's made these" but I hadn't until the other night and I enjoyed it immensely, so now I'm showing you!  (cross-posted, therefore apologies to those of you who also read craftgrrl on LJ.)  If this should be moved to a different header, please let me know and I will move it!  So... what happens when you combine hot glue, a dream, and these?

Apparently, this!

I just put a little dot of glue on the back of the gem and then pressed the head of the tack into the glue.

Impressed by my skill, I boldly mixed these:

And derived these:

These were handled the same way except, after the glue dried, I pushed the prongs tight under the head of the tack for extra security in case the glue failed.  I tried making some with the prongs flattened against the gem itself and then gluing it, but it didn't seem as stable.

Anyway, lots of fun, lots of simple and lots of cheap.  What more could a girl ask for?

How much did the square ones cost?  I've thought of using buttons for funky thumbtacks, but never gems.  Seems so obvious now...  Undecided

Thank you, Smurfette!  This is my first actual project post!

Retrokitty, I can't find my receipt for the purchase (and I know I stowed it somewhere - good thing I'm taking that class about organization, but anyway....), but I recall them being some rather odd price like $2.46.  They were definitely over 2, but not as high as 3 or even really close to three.  Alos, they are 18 to a pack, so that's pretty decent.

The buttons would be cool!  I accidebtally bought some that I thought were just cats, but they have the shank in the back.  Guess I better go rev up the Dremel!   You wouldn't believe all the stuff I've been thinking about gluing to tacks, though.  I guess we can expect a lot more tacky posts from me.   Tongue
