My 7-year old daughter designed a doll and asked Santa to make it for Xmas 2003. She insisted that Santa took special requests. She designed this doll down to every last detail, including thread color and number of stitches on her mouth. She named the doll Molly. Recently, she asked me whether Santa really made the doll. When I admitted I made it, rather than being upset, she was very very impressed with her Mom's handiwork. The doll is about 7 inches tall. (This is my first post here, so forgive me if I'm doing something wrong, but feel free to tell me so I don't do it again.)

how cute! she reminds me of the female character from the tim burton movie Nightmare Before Christmas (because of the mouth, i think.). tell your daughter she has a good eye for design and to keep it up! and good job yourself on the execution!

Sew cute!!  I love the expression on her face.  It has that wonderful innocent quality of children.  Good work to both of you!

Truly adorable. You and your daughter make a great team. One year at the Chicago Bucktown Art Fair I saw this one particular booth of an artist (a man) who turned his toddler son's scribble scratch handrawn pictures into stuffed animals. Each piece came with a tiny photocopy of the actual drawing.  You could start "Cleo's Creations"...

Thanks for the feedback. Cleo still hasn't seen The Nightmare Before Christmas (she's easily creeped out -- Scooby Doo still freaks her out). I thought that's where she got the idea for the doll, but she had no idea what I was talking about when I asked her about the movie. She just really wanted a rag doll that she created on her own. I need to pick her brain for some more ideas. :-)

What material did you make the body and hair out of? I absolutely love it by the way!

It is so cute! it reminds me of a WAY better looking scrumph from Lilo and Stitch.  It makes me want to hug it.  Smiley

The body and dress are felt, and the hair's yellow yarn. She requested red button eyes, with 2 holes in them -- she specified the pocket with the flower on it, literally every last detail.

This weekend I had a little more artistic freedom since she wasn't home. Friday I made a stuffed monster, and last night my date canceled (sob), so I made 2 sock monkeys. I'll post those tomorrow.
