I really like to do thread crochet, but I can't find any hip patterns. I don't really like to crochet garments and I am definitely not into doilies! I am working on the "heirloom bedspread" from Darsha Capaldi's book New Ideas for Crochet. It's a damn good thing that its an heirloom, because I won't finish it until I am on my death bed. I have made 4 squares and it calls for something like 650 squares!

Any way, I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions for inventing new projects.

Thanks!

I have a copy of this book http://www.karpstyles.com/catalog.html?item=91&catid=Clothing%20Hats%20Bags&ret=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.karpstyles.com%2Fcatalog.html%3Fpage%3D3%26category%3DClothing%2520Hats%2520Bags for little crocheted amulet bags.

They are really quick to make up and cute, and there is a variety of different stitches on all the different bags.  Maybe something like this would work for you?

I think it's just crocheting with thread instead of yarn. Wink

Erika Knight's book, Simple Crochet, has lots of "hip" crochet projects (mostly homewares-- baskets, pillows, table runners, etc.).  She experiments with a lot of different materials (jute, cotton thread, rags, etc.) and has a good eye for color and design.  You might find some good projects there.

Thanks for the ideas, those bags are cute. And they would adapt well to my short attention span. Thread crochet is like what people do to make doilies and such. You use a very small crochet hook and size 5 or 10 crochet thread, which is usually mercerized cotton. It's kinda pretty, but hell on the fingers.

Someone else I asked suggetsed crocheting jewelry...like rings, chokers, etc...so I may give that a try, too.

i know its not the same but if you like crotcheting with fine thread you could try wire - makes really pretty jewelllery. i saw a beautiful black lacy crotcheted lampshade once it was for a pendant light - i think it was made for some designer by this women's cooperative in a brazilian favela - maybe something like that would be an idea

If you're interested in that sort of thing, you might like tatting. I know it's suppose to be a dying art and all but I enjoy it. Here's a link if you're interested: http://www.picotnet.com/

Thanks ya'll!! Lots of good ideas. I'm going to check out tating and wire. I have wondered how difficult it would be to crochet with wire. I'll have to give it a whorl.
