I tried my hand at wet-felting for the first time tonight, using the felt bead tutorial and made five little kool-aid dyed cherry tomatoes. The green, leafy part is just some lame acrylic yarn threaded through the bead, but I'm sure you needle felters could make these totally felted. (And therefore much more awesome.)

Wet-felting beads turned out to be just as easy as you guys made it out to be (thankfully) and although my kitchen now smells distractingly kool-aidy, I'll definitely try doing more things soon.

Today I went out and bought more kool-aid; a light green and a blue. I dyed more of the wool in the green and then dyed it again in a mixture of the blue and green. Now my tomatoes have a home!

A home and a green tomato baby sibling!
The stem is wire wrapped in acrylic yarn, and I sewed the tomatoes on with some clear nylon thread. I'm not really entirely pleased yet with the way the leaves look (I'm having some problems getting flat things to felt evenly, but I'm pretty sure that's just a practice thing) so I think I'll try again later this weekend.

Those tomatoes are so sweet-- I want to squeeze them!  (Is that bad?)   Wink

I like how the leaves came out-- I also really like the little green tomato that you added!

I love how it looks in the second picture with the leaves.  Is it a pin?

The bigger, red tomatoes are about the size of a quarter. I've been experimenting more with felting and it looks like I might be sewing an entire felted tomato plant to a dress as my final grade twelve art project. Wish me luck, it's going to take me aaaages!
