Shank buttons can also be put on bobby pins to make them pretty.

You just slide one 'arm' of the bobby pin(the flat side is easier) through the shank and tadah! cute clip!

Ohmigod.  This.. brilliant.  I'd been crying over the fact that I couldn't remember where my mom used to buy me these uber cute ponytails with cute little characters on them (strawberries with little faces, etc.), and now I know how to make them!  I feel so dumb for not thinking of this, but sooo glad that YOU did!

Remember the ponytail holders that had a round bead/ball on either end?  You fastened them by wrapping it around your hair and hooking on end over the other, like a button in a button hole.   Many years ago I used to make my own version with two buttons by threading cord elastic through both buttons and then either making a really tight square knot or by handsewing the elastic together.  That might work with the flapper buttons.

I did mine with cherries and sent off to my rockabilly friends in Sweden.
