The bottom chart: you chain two then two sc in 2nd chain from hook. For the second row chain one and turn then two sc in each sc below, etc. I found this cute heart pattern in another Hello Kitty crochet book. ^_ ^ The pattern goes to either a cute towel or a placement. I'm not sure if I four sc then chain and continue with four sc until I chain and turn again. (For the v shape)
So there's just one piece and not two. The top circle with the opening is where the stuffing goes in. Where are rows 12-19 located at? I understand the chart up until that part (Increase of 6 then a decrease by 6).

I think on rows 12-19 you just stitch even with 66 sc's in each row,
So if the heart starts at the bottom, at the third row, you do one increase, 2 sc's in the next 2 sc's and then another increase so that you will have 6 stitches on that row. Then at the top of the heart, you do one arch and then slip stitch and chain to get over to do the other side the other side. At least that is how it looks to me.

I think it will work as well as any other crocheted face cloth. It does have a "good side" because the face is embroidered on.

I don't know what I will make it into yet but I am thinking maybe a potholder by joining two big ones back to back somehow??? Or Maybe I can make a few of them for her to use as coasters?? HmMmMm....... I will post pictures when I figure it all out.

I always do the eyes and nose on the lower half of the face. I put the eyes wide set so they sit
just
below the center, or sort of right along the horizontal center of the round part of the face.

I'm kind of a crochet newbie (very 1st and 2nd projects here):
http://www.flickr.com/photos/nikismami/2857281536/in/set-72157602113712691/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/nikismami/3009394848/in/set-72157602113712691/
and since I saw/read this topic a few months ago... fell in love the HK granny square. Couldn't figure it out , not even after reading all the very good info posted here.
I'm
very thankful
to one of the members
here
on Craftster that guided me...
Thanks for your kindness and generosity in taking the time to explain this to me !!!
This is my very 1st time: joining yarn , crocheting in an oval , crocheting in dif. yarn colors, and my very 1st granny square !!!
I know it is less than perfect, but not too bad
! At least it could resemble one of HK relatives...
!
Thanks Again for your help !
BTW... I will love to improve (for now) the ears... any pointers will be greatly appreciated !!!
Here is a close up of one of the ears,
