The baking makes them have a bubbly type texture. Microwaving gives a crackly texture.

I wait until they're cool to cut them, and then just cut really slowly.

I put it in the oven on a piece of tin foil, and waited until the texture changed. Then I pulled it out and let it cool (it's a bit liquidy at this time). Then I just cut it with regular scissors very slowly, so it wouldn't crack.

I've heard that some turn out more brittle than others, but I can't vouch for this.

I have to say everyones work is beautiful. So today was my craft day with my neighbors granddaugter, picked her up went to the 99cents store and the dollar store, picked up lots of little crafts,,,,but then i told her we were going to cook cd's she looked at me like i was strange for a minute because i didnt tell her why, but hey, she was up for it just because she wanted to cook cd's we scrounged up 6 various cd's and got to cooking...we didnt use the microwave just the oven. we havent made anything yet they are still in cd form, hubbys going to cut them with a hot knife for us.. And hes also giving us 50 cds to use for this that were cheap. and since they curled up next time im going to make them flat by putting a dish and sheet of tin foil over it....these turned out pretty neat i think. Thanks so much for posting about this it really was fun just to see what would happen.

I put holes in using a candle and a needle. It creates nasty fumes, but eventually works.

I heated the needle over the flame, and then melted a hole in the plastic. I then scraped the plastic crud off of the needle (before or after sticking in the flame again, I forget), and repeated the procedure until I had a hole in the plastic as big as I wanted.
