My boyfriend told me that the one time he tried to microwave a CD, his microwave ended up ruined. Do you think this  is just because he left it in too long? I am worried that I am going to ruin my microwave and end up having to buy a new one for my parents.
And also- Does putting the CD in the oven create awful fumes?
there was a little bit of a funky smell that came from the microwave but only for a second. i think you only need to put them in for 10 seconds i put mine in for 15 and it started to brown.

That is just the coolest thing, I've seen. I want to try it so bad. but I have this major problem, how do I make holes into it without the dremel tool. I tried to do it with a pair or scissors but the piece slip and the edge of the Cd gave me a cut.  Huh Does anyone have another method to make holes on it. Thanks and again GREAT JOB!  Grin

wow! these are really cool - i've tried it and it works! amazing. Anyway I just wanted to say that if you go on ebay (well, at least the UK one) you can look up 'coloured CDs' and buy mix packs of all different coloured cds - red, orange, purple blue...just thought you might all like to know...more experiments...woohoo Cheesy

Elsie, i think if you heat a needle so it's red, then you can melt a hole in the plastic without breaking anything, or cutting yourself...

I saw this and just had to try it. I made some earrings with the microwave method (no pic yet, sorry), and a necklace with the oven method.  Grin

The CD has to be blue to start with. Most of the ones you buy burned already (ie: music CDs) are silver, but the ones that you burn yourself often have blue bottoms. Apparently gaming CD's have purple bottoms.

If it doesn't have the color already, I'm not sure what you can do about it.  Undecided
