Swap name: Shel Silverstein Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: shylitlegoddess
Sign-up date range: 4/11 - 4/16
Date to send item by: 5/13

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): nope, not really.

Non-U.S. participants allowed? yes

All ages allowed? Or 18+? all ages

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap- Shelly Silverstein, most commonly known as Shel Silverstein, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 25. The books I read said he was born in 1932, but some other sources give his year of birth as 1930. His full name was Sheldon Allan Silverstein. He is best known in children's literature for his poetry; however, he was also a cartoonist, composer, lyricist and folksinger.

Needless to say Shel Silverstein did a lot, was a lot, and meant a lot to a lot of people. Proclaim your love for the witty and cute and make something fun for someone!

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap:
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US?:
List some of your favorite books, poems, or songs:
What age do you remember Silverstein being introduced to you?
What was the first thing you read or had read to you?

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

I just PM'd you too!  What kind of things do people plan to make?  I'm usually a knitter, but Shel doesn't seem to lend himself to knitting quite as well as some other things.  Lots of options though, maybe it's time to try a new craft!

Hmm...this swap sounds pretty cool. When I was little Shel Silverstein was my favorite poet. He still is, along with Emily Dickinson.

I may join. Have to mull it over.
Even if I don't, I'll definitely check out the gallery. Smiley

Let's go with this:

1 Large-ish item. Meaning that it takes a decent length of time to finish. Maybe a collage of characters from a favorite book.
2 Smaller things that take 1/2 -1/4 the time to finish as the Large-ish one. Something based on a favorite poem or song.
AND Add small things as your heart desires.

Sound ok to everyone?

Here's a link to an assortment of GREAT poetry Shel did for Playboy. Very funny stuff- One of my faves is "Never Bite a Married Woman on the Thigh" LOL!

http://members.tripod.com/~ShelSilverstein/Playboy.html

I am still trying to find an online version of "the giving tree" -I cant remember the story coz its been so long! haha! I may have to go to the library to do some research.  Wink
But i did find my favorite poem - for sentimental reasons-
"Whatif" from 'A light in the Attic'.

"Last night, while I lay thinking here,
Some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
And pranced and partied all night long
And sang their same old Whatif song;
Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?...."

Hey all,

I'm working on the pairs. I should have them posted soon, but, we have an odd number of people so I'm going to leave sign-ups open today as well. If we've not had a fourteenth, I'll figure something out.

It has been brought to my attention that  I put this in the "Paper Crafts" board and I should have put it in a different one. So I'm moving it again.

I can't wait to see the outcome of this swap!  My son is in the First Grade and his reading teacher has already got him hooked on Shel Silverstein books!  It amazes me!

Haha, I just got my wisdom teeth taken out so I may or may not be crafting for the next couple of days. We'll see. However, I do have a few things done and am pretty positive that I'll be ready by the send date. And boy, what a great swap. Thanks shylitlegoddess for organizing this swap!  Cheesy

Also, I TOTALLY recommend Shel's book Different Dances; it's more adult oriented---and it's BRILLIANT.
