The awesome thing I would assume is that they aren't very hard to make, right?  And the initial cost of the pens is minimal...I think I need to get into polymer clay...along with the gazillion other things I am into!! Smiley

craftygem, one of the important Lessons of Life Grin is always to take photos of things you make! ... took me awhile to figure that out and establish the habit, but there are so many things now that I wish I had photos of so I could show a technique or example of to someone else, or just because I notice when I look at my old photos now that I've totally forgotten I'd made many of them...

If you're talking about the clear Bic pens, the reason they melt (where the Bic Stics don't) is in general because they're a different type of plastic... one whose melting or softening temperature is lowerr than those of the more rubbery types of plastic.
Also, even the Bic Stics may actually be close to the limit of polymer baking temps (265-275), but because they're insulated to some degree under the clay, they can tolerate that heat better.  (This shows up when covering the black plastic film canisters, for example... if the rim is not covered, or the baking time is not kept to ten minutes, the rim may begin to distort.)

(for anyone interested in other brands and types of pens which can be covered with polymer clay, plus lessons on covering them, etc., check out this page:

no i didnt, they do have them in magazines and books, but i got the idea when i was younger.  my best friend's aunt and uncle used to make them and sell them at the mall.  i thought it was something u needed a kiln for until i discovered polymer.  i would like to see your pens too

Those are really nice, and look very hard to make (contrary to what you said). Anyway, how do you get them soo smooth? I don;t even really understand how you made them, I don;t work with clay! But nonetheless the look awesome!
